01/31/15
Today was the first day of Saturday School Junior Scientists Lab at Georgia State. Our teacher is very nice and very smart. She is currently studying neuroscience and has only been in the United States and spoken English for five months since moving from Turkey. We did an interactive lab on termites. We were testing to see if the termite would follow a blue line drawn on paper and why. Our group's hypothesis was that the termite would follow the blue line because of its color and the pressure applied to the pen. The termite followed the blue line with medium-hard pressure and sort of followed the black line, but it avoided the red, yellow, and green lines. We later found out that the termites were actually blind, so maybe the color had no effect on why it would follow the blue line, or maybe the blue pen had a different smell. All in all, we had a great time and learned a lot of different things.
